The innovative solutions implemented by a resident of the Moscow SEZ have helped preserve the architectural heritage of St. Petersburg

The products of a resident of the special economic zone (SEZ) “Technopolis Moscow” were used in the renovation of the production buildings of the “Krasnoye Znamya” knitting factory in St. Petersburg. Innovative materials made it possible to carry out work on a cultural heritage site of regional significance within a short timeframe. This was announced by Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.

“The project demonstrates how capital innovations help solve important tasks in the field of restoration and preservation of the architectural identity of Russian cities.” Leveraging a large package of support measures, a resident of the Moscow SEZ is developing solutions that enable the careful restoration of unique buildings. The technologies preserve the historical appearance while simultaneously ensuring the necessary strength and safety of the structures. Over the course of its operations in the SEZ, the company has produced innovative products worth 11.2 billion rubles,” noted Maxim Liksutov.

The production buildings of the Red Banner knitwear factory were built in 1926–1929 in the constructivist style. This architectural monument is located in the historical center of St. Petersburg. In the summer of 2026, the main and secondary beams, as well as the floors, were reinforced at the facility. For this purpose, carbon tape produced by the Nanotechnological Center of Composites was used.

This technology makes the repair 15-20 % cheaper than standard methods of strengthening buildings, and the work takes less time. The main advantage is that the reconstruction does not create an excessive load on the load‑bearing structures, which is critical for historical buildings. Products made from new materials by a resident of the Moscow SEZ were also used at other cultural heritage sites. Among them are the Radio House in St. Petersburg, the Tsar’s Station pavilion in Tsarskoye Selo, and the Ivan Aivazovsky House‑Museum in Feodosia.

Products from residents of the capital’s special economic zone are regularly supplied to regions across Russia — from the Kaliningrad Region to the Far East. Inspection equipment produced in the capital is used at airports, on railways, and at energy facilities across the country. Portable medical devices for emergency care are supplied to ambulance services and hospitals in more than 50 regions. Composite materials and structures are used in the construction and reconstruction of bridges, overpasses, and hydraulic structures in dozens of regions. And the digital educational equipment developed by a resident of the special economic zone helps schoolchildren and preschoolers learn natural sciences in 73 regions.

The capital is building the foundation for the country’s technological sovereignty. Thanks to city solutions and support measures, residents of the Technopolis Moscow special economic zone are increasing the production of innovative products and expanding their presence in global markets. This contributes to the implementation of the national project “Efficient and Competitive Economy.
