Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin wrote in his blog about the digital transformation of Moscow.
"I have previously talked about what digital services are used in Moscow construction projects and which of them Moscow is transferring to other regions, as well as about the fact that we are standardizing the use of AI in medicine. This post will focus on the implementation of AI at Moscow industrial enterprises. The main testing ground for implementing such solutions is the special economic zone ‘Technopolis Moscow’, where today more than 240 high‑tech companies are operating, creating over 33,000 jobs. Artificial intelligence technologies have become an important driver of development for the participants of the Moscow Innovation Cluster as well. Smart algorithms and digital services help create innovative products, automate internal processes, and improve production safety. It is also important that these developments and best practices in the Moscow industry do not remain confined to the capital. We are building a system that allows them to be scaled up to regions — so that advanced approaches can be implemented at factories and production facilities across the country. Industrialists can find proven digital tools in the “Technology Bank”. “This register of domestic software and equipment has been in operation since 2020,” Sergey Sobyanin wrote.
A good example of smart manufacturing is a resident of the Moscow SEZ, the company Nex‑T, known under the NexTouch brand. The company produces 45 types of devices. Interactive screens from this company can be used for learning in kindergartens, schools, and universities. Last year, the resident patented a unique touch display. It is controlled by gestures and can display three‑dimensional images. The scope of application ranges from visual lessons in schools to the most complex operations in medicine. The production of such products requires pinpoint accuracy, which is why computer vision is used on robotic lines. In clean rooms, cameras with artificial intelligence monitor the installation of microelectronic components.
The pharmaceutical company R‑Pharm, which has localized its production in the Technopolis Moscow special economic zone, uses artificial intelligence to develop a drug for Alzheimer’s disease. One of the main challenges in treating the brain is finding ways to bypass the natural protective barrier that prevents necessary medications from entering. AI helps solve this problem: it goes through thousands of virtual molecules and constructs those that can “bypass” this protection and deliver the drug to its target. This approach saves scientists thousands of hours of manual work in laboratories. As a result, a new drug will appear several years earlier.
Scientists at the Research Institute of Molecular Electronics, a resident of the Technopolis Moscow SEZ, are developing the architecture of hardware solutions for artificial intelligence. They can be installed directly on machines. One of the areas of focus is the development of calculators that reduce the time and energy required for data processing. In the future, such technologies will find application in industrial monitoring systems, computer vision, and signal processing — anywhere where AI needs to operate locally, quickly, and reliably. Today, the developments of NIIIME are used in the space, transport, and financial industries, as well as at facilities of critical information infrastructure. Last year, the institute produced special technological equipment and ultra‑pure chemical materials for photolithography — a basic operation in chip production.
