Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin spoke about the development of medical technology in the capital in his blog.

Medicine, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnologies are an actively growing and promising sector of Moscow industry. There are more than 300 specialized enterprises operating in the city, employing about 30 thousand people. The companies produce a wide range of products, from neuroimplants for restoring hearing and vision to artificial kidneys. Many of them have no analogues in Russia and the world. The city has created conditions for a full production cycle: the infrastructure of the Technopolis Moscow SEZ allows you to go from the laboratory to the finished product. The Moscow Innovation Cluster provides companies with a wide range of support measures, from grants for modernization and compensation for patents to the opportunity to test solutions based on urban infrastructure. As a result, by the end of 2025, the production of medicines and medical materials in Moscow increased by 8.8%. At the same time, for example, the production of cardiovascular drugs increased by 79.8%, medicines for the respiratory system — by 87.2%, and vaccines and serums — by one and a half times. The production of medical instruments and equipment increased by 7.2% last year," Sergei Sobyanin said.

I will tell you about some interesting developments in more detail.

Acrus Biomed (a resident of Technopolis Moscow SEZ) was the first company in Russia to launch the production of cellular drugs for clinical trials. The main development of the company is "artificial skin" based on donor cells.

Often, severe patients, for example, with diabetic feet, may require complex operations, including amputation. Using "artificial leather" will help to avoid this. A Moscow-based company has received permission to conduct clinical trials of two high-tech drugs at once. These are the biological and dermal equivalents of the skin. Both are based on human donor cells and a special carrier that mimics the structure of real skin. The first drug accelerates healing in critical skin losses and reduces the risk of scarring, while the second is intended for autodermoplasty (skin grafting) — it can even be used on an outpatient basis or in a day hospital. As soon as the drugs receive registration certificates, they will begin to arrive at the clinics.

The plant is ready to produce up to 70 thousand units per year. At the same time, the company develops solutions for the treatment of spinal and joint injuries.

The company "Metanephros" from the SEZ "Technopolis Moscow" has created a domestic device "artificial kidney". The company is ready to produce from 500 to a thousand artificial kidney devices per year, as well as from four to eight million components annually. Roszdravnadzor has already issued a registration certificate for the equipment, an official confirmation of its safety and effectiveness. A test production is currently underway, in which four "artificial kidneys" have already been assembled. They will be delivered to Russian clinics.

Another SEZ resident, Artsellens, is working with scientists from MONICA to create Russia's first artificial liver. The technology allows the organ to be grown from the patient's own cells, which significantly reduces the risk of rejection. In the early stages, the development is designed to help patients wait for a donor, but in the future it will be able to completely replace the damaged organ.

In addition, in October last year, the company opened the first stage of a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant at Pechatniki with a capacity of up to 10 million tablets and up to 20 million capsules per year to combat cancer, strokes and heart attacks, thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.

Motorika, a resident of Technopolis Moscow SEZ and Skolkovo Technopark, has developed the world's first prosthetic hand with Omni Hand optical sensors. The technology reads signals not only from muscles, but also tendons, so the prosthesis is suitable even for people with severe hand injuries, such as after frostbite. Mass production of the new model began in January. At the same time, the company produces other types of prosthetics — since 2016, Motorica has provided prosthetics to more than eight thousand people from 17 countries, entering the top 10 global manufacturers. Thanks to the support of the Moscow Innovation Cluster, the company expanded production and increased the production of products to 4,500 per year, as well as scaled up the production of 3D printing (SLS) and was able to patent nine new inventions. Now the company is actively preparing to enter the stock market.

Oxykor, a resident of Technopolis Moscow SEZ, has created the first Russian membrane oxygenator. The device replaces the work of the lungs — it saturates the blood with oxygen during heart surgery or in severe respiratory diseases. The main achievement of engineers is a special way of assembling a key part of the device. There are thousands of tiny filter tubes inside it. They can't just be installed — they need to be perfectly fixed. If they move or flatten, the device may leak and become dangerous for the patient. Moscow specialists have developed a unique gluing technology. Thanks to it, the tubes are held securely, and the device is safe for people.

The developers are constantly improving the device. He has already successfully passed clinical trials and is at the registration stage. The plant's capacity makes it possible to produce up to 50,000 such devices per year, ensuring that clinics are independent from imports.

We continue to form powerful pharmaceutical and medical clusters in Moscow. This work is part of the major national projects Long and Active Life and Health Technologies, which will help make quality medicine accessible to everyone," Sergei Sobyanin emphasized.
