KMZ continues large-scale modernization

A new stage of large-scale modernization is being implemented at the site of the Karacharovsky Mechanical Plant (KMZ). The company has started renovation of the main production shop. This was announced by Anatoly Garbuzov, Minister of the Moscow Government and Head of the Moscow Department of Investment and Industrial Policy.

On February 1, Russia celebrates Elevator Worker's Day. The Moscow Karacharovsky Mechanical Plant is one of the largest elevator–building enterprises in the country. Since its foundation, KMZ has produced 288,000 elevators, including almost 5,000 in the company's anniversary year 2025.

"On behalf of the Mayor of Moscow, the city is implementing a set of measures to stimulate the technological development of industrial enterprises. In 2026, KMZ continues to modernize its infrastructure on a large scale, including the main production facility. The total investment in this stage of work will amount to more than 1.2 billion rubles. The roof and facades of the workshop will be updated, a lighting system with anti—aircraft lights and a modern air conditioning system will be installed," Anatoly Garbuzov said.

The increase in the production capacity of the Karacharovsky Mechanical Plant will increase the volume of products and the degree of localization of key components for elevator equipment.

"The KMZ modernization project provides for the phased renovation of old buildings, the construction of new production facilities, as well as the tallest test tower in Russia, which will ensure a full cycle of testing elevator equipment at the enterprise," added Dmitry Sidelkovsky, General Director of the Karacharovsky Mechanical Plant.

As part of the first stage of KMZ modernization, more than 40 units of new equipment were installed. Lathes and milling machines, as well as high-precision laser cutting machines from a Moscow manufacturer, have started working at the enterprise.

KMZ is a resident of the Technopolis Moscow special economic zone and enjoys large-scale tax preferences, in particular, a reduced income tax rate of two percent instead of 25. The company uses the saved funds to increase production volumes, as well as to develop and implement new high-tech solutions.
