A Russian artificial kidney machine has been developed at the Technopolis Moscow Special Economic Zone

MetaNefros, a company from the Technopolis Moscow SEZ, was the first in Russia to receive a registration certificate for hemodialysis equipment. The device purifies patients' blood in cases of acute and chronic renal failure, according to Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.

"On the instructions of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, the city is paying special attention to the development of the medical industry. Technopolis Moscow SEZ residents regularly develop unique technologies and implement them in healthcare. For example, one company recently created a blood purification device. The planned production capacity is 500 to 1,000 such systems per year," noted Maxim Liksutov.

The project also includes the launch of consumables production. The company has created cartridges with a specially prepared dry mixture and disposable filters – dialyzers. The planned annual production volume is four to eight million units of these auxiliary medical devices.

Hemodialysis is performed on patients with acute or chronic renal failure, as well as in cases of severe poisoning, electrolyte imbalances, and certain other conditions.

Earlier, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin outlined the strategy for the development of Moscow's industry through 2030. The Technopolis Moscow SEZ features prominently in this strategy. As the Mayor noted, the SEZ is planned to be significantly expanded by 2030, covering 600 hectares and 5.6 million square meters of industrial infrastructure. More than 90,000 specialists will be employed at the enterprises in the special economic zone.
