Technopolis Moscow SEZ Resident Patents Seven Intellectual Property Objects
In 2024, Micron, one of Russia’s leading microelectronics manufacturers, registered seven new intellectual property (IP) objects. The company has been a resident of the Technopolis Moscow Special Economic Zone (SEZ) since 2015.
This was announced by Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industrial Development:
“Under the instruction of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, the city has introduced a range of support measures for high-tech enterprises, including the resident status of the Technopolis Moscow SEZ. This tool allows companies to save on taxes and reinvest resources into developing innovative products and acquiring patents. By the end of 2024, Micron, a resident of the Moscow SEZ, had registered seven IP objects. Today, the company’s portfolio includes 36 active patents and 39 certificates for key products that have undergone state registration. To further support industry growth in the capital, a dedicated Photonics and Microelectronics Cluster has also been established and is successfully operating,” Liksutov noted.
Last year, the plant obtained five certificates of registration for solutions, including a software program, a microchip with SIM/eSIM functionality and a security element, as well as general-purpose and interface microchips. Among the company’s most recent developments is a device for forming and restoring modified Hamming codes for 16-bit binary numbers, designed to improve transistor speed and resilience to failures in data processing.
Anatoly Garbuzov, Minister of the Moscow Government and Head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy, added:
“Other microelectronics enterprises within the Moscow SEZ are also actively patenting their developments — including ZITC, ZNTC, NIIME, Angstrem, and Elvis. Their innovations range from unique microchips and software modules to semiconductor products, electronic components, RFID tags, operating systems, and computer programs.”
The development of high-tech production remains a strategic priority for the Technopolis Moscow SEZ.
Gulnara Khasyanova, CEO of Micron, emphasized:
“As of early 2025, Micron’s patent portfolio includes 75 registered IP objects. These new developments represent an important step in strengthening the country’s technological sovereignty. Once introduced into serial production, they will allow device manufacturers to increase localization levels and bring competitive, in-demand Russian products to market.”
Gennady Dyogtev, CEO of the Technopolis Moscow SEZ, highlighted the benefits of resident status:
“Residents of the Moscow SEZ are exempt from property, land, and transport taxes for 10 years, while the profit tax rate is reduced to just 2% instead of the standard 20%. In addition, residents are exempt from customs duties and VAT on imported goods and equipment under the free customs zone procedure.”
