A plant for the production of scarce medical devices will appear in Moscow

A new production of medical units for ostomy patients is expected on the platform of SEZ Technopolis Moscow in Pechatniki by the end of 2021 within one of city offset contracts, informed Vladimir Efimov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for economic policy and property and land relations.

“Today over 90% of medical equipment for rehabilitation of disabled people and oncology patients in post-surgery period is purchased abroad. New production will ensure total import-substitution on the market and provide the city healthcare system with necessary medical equipment for ostomy patients. With this aim the Government of Moscow concluded an offset contract last year with a company Gemamed which implies about one billion Rubles of investment into the development of production development up to 2022”, explained Vice-Mayor.

According to the contract, a resident company of SEZ Technopolis Moscow GemaTech (subsidiary of Gemamed) plans to develop the production of specific medical equipment thus ensuring total import-substitution on the market and providing the city healthcare system with necessary medical units.

According to Alexander Prokhorov, Head of the Department of investment and industrial policy of Moscow, the resident company of special economic zone GemaTech has already launched the conversion works in the production premises. “The enterprise is going to occupy 2.1 thousand sq.m. on the territory of the special economic zone. Minimum 20 working places will be created by 2022 with a payroll amounting to about 20 million Rubles”, he added.

The company GemaTech gained the status of a resident company in March last year, said Gennady Degtev, CEO of SEZ Technopolis Moscow. “The resident status gives GemaTech the opportunity to avail of all preferences and save 47% on taxes and other obligatory payments every year. Lower tax burden will allow the company to redirect the funds to additional R&D works. This creates additional chances to tap the market of unique and competitive high-tech products”, underlined Gennady Degtev.
