A unique method of labeling and identification of laboratory samples was developed by the company Concern Goodwin (Goodwin Europe), a resident of the special economic zone Technopolis Moscow. New method for labeling tubes will automate sample identification and speed up laboratory work as informed by Alexander Prokhorov, Head of the Department of investment and industrial policy of Moscow.

A unique circular sector barcode, which is applied to the upper surface of a laboratory test tube, has been introduced into the technical marking solution for the first time. Code markers are positioned to provide line-of-sight barcodes for the entire available pool of tubes in the rack. This allows you to read information about the entire group of samples at once, highlight the desired one and quickly sort the tubes.

The development was presented in September, and in the nearest future the new method will be patented.

“The development has a wide field of application, marking can be in demand in any institutions where a large volume of test tubes is used - these are laboratories, hospitals, clinics and pharmaceutical industries. The implementation will enable automated diagnostic process, reduced labor intensity for processing samples and reduced number of repeated and duplicate studies. This is a step towards digitalization of the medical sector in general”, said the Head of the Department.

Test tubes can be labeled both at the stage of their production and when used in the laboratories themselves, specified Gennady Degtev, CEO of SEZ Technopolis Moscow. “This type of marking will allow you to store and track information about the state of the sample at every stage, from production, where information about the date, plant, batch, and transportation is indicated, ending with information about the analysis with the patient's name, type of analysis, date, and sample disposal”, he said.

A special mobile application has been developed for the unique solution, which is suitable for any type of smartphones. It allows you to scan barcodes with your camera and quickly find the sample you want. For large volumes of search and sorting, automated complexes are provided.
