SEZ Technopolis Moscow will start producing an original medicine for multiple sclerosis

Biotechnology company will launch on the site Alabushevo of a special economic zone (SEZ) Technopolis Moscow will start the production of the first Russian original medicine for multiple sclerosis therapy. This was announced by Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations Vladimir Yefimov. Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that affects the lining of the nerve fibers, which can lead to impaired motor activity and complete paralysis. To slow the progression of the disease, patients take lifelong medications that alter its course. In 2023, the first original Russian medicine for multiple sclerosis therapy will be produced on the site of Alabushevo, a special economic zone in Moscow. The production will be set up on the basis of the PK-137 pharmaceutical complex of the Biocad biotechnology company. Until then, the medicine will be produced at the company's other production sites. The company has invested more than a billion rubles in the development and research of the medication, - said Vladimir Yefimov. The Russian Ministry of Health issued the registration certificate for the medicine developed by the company's scientists at the end of March 2023. The drug received the trade name Ivlizi (international nonproprietary name - Divozilimab). Pharmaceutical complex PK-137 has the status of a resident of the capital's special economic zone, which allows receiving significant tax preferences and directing additional funds to its own development. Now on the basis of the site in Alabushevo 40 medicines are produced, 29 of them - for delivery under the offset contract concluded by the city with the company Biocad in 2017, - said the head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy of Moscow Vladislav Ovchinsky. The site produces medicine for the treatment of oncological and oncohematological, neurological, rheumatological and orphan diseases. As the company specified, the production and supply of the medicine can significantly improve the effectiveness of multiple sclerosis therapy and the quality of life of patients. Biocad is the first company with which Moscow has signed an offset contract. According to it the company built on the territory of SEZ Technopolis Moscow the production complex PK-137, where various medicines are produced, including those for the prevention and treatment of multiple sclerosis, oncological and oncohematological, neurological, rheumatological, orphan diseases. As part of the implementation of the offset contract, the investor commissioned the first stage of the plant on the territory of SEZ Technopolis Moscow in September 2020 and the second stage in September 2022.
