Resident of the SEZ Technopolis Moscow will start serial production of photonic chips

The resident of the special economic zone SEZ Technopolis Moscow - the company Zelenograd Nanotechnology Center- is preparing to start mass production of photonic integrated circuits and modules for telecommunications equipment. This was announced by Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations Vladimir Efimov. “Photonic technologies make it possible to increase the information transfer rate by more than 100 times, so products using them are in demand among leading manufacturers and customers of high-speed equipment. The development of this industry contributes to the strengthening of the technological sovereignty of the country. Currently, a resident of the special economic zone of the capital is implementing a comprehensive project to launch mass production of photonic integrated circuits and modules for telecommunications equipment. The company intends to localize the production of optical multiplexers based on silicon technologies in Russia. It is planned to start supplying the first batches of new products in 2023, and serial production in 2024,” said Vladimir Efimov. ZNTC is one of the first enterprises in Russia that will produce photonic integrated circuits. Today, the development and mastering of such technologies is one of the new and most promising areas for the development of the company. Work in the field of photonics and nanotechnologies is carried out by universities, research and commercial enterprises, but, as a rule, within the framework of scientific research. In October 2022, ZNTC joined the Moscow Intersectoral Photonics Cluster, which unites specialized enterprises and scientific and technical organizations of the capital. The intersectoral association was created based on the Moscow Innovation Cluster. “The Moscow Photonics Cluster is the main base for the development of photonic technologies in the city, which ensure the country's technological sovereignty in this area. He supports the work of transferring scientific developments to production. Today, the cluster includes 40 participants, about half of which are residents of the special economic zone of the capital,” said Vladislav Ovchinsky, Head of the Investment and Industrial Policy Department. The developed photonic integrated circuits can be used in high-speed and energy-efficient devices for transmitting and processing telecommunication signals. This equipment is used for on-board equipment and ground infrastructure of the aerospace industry, as well as in the telecommunications industry for organizing powerful 5/6G information networks, connecting users to high-speed Internet, IP telephony and IP television. “We have accumulated significant experience in designing photonics elements. Currently ZNTC is mastering the production of multiplexers, divider modulators, interferometers and resonators. The first samples of crystals of the domestic optical waveguide AWG multiplexer, which provides signal transmission in telephone and local computer networks and data transmission networks, have been obtained. Now we are preparing mass production and in the near future we plan to produce at least five thousand products per year,” said Konstantin Pevchikh, head of the integrated photonics technology department at ZNTC. An optical waveguide AWG multiplexer is a device that allows you to combine electrical signals with various interfaces - telephone networks, local computer networks, data networks - into a single group signal, convert it into an optical form and transmit over a fiber optic cable over a distance. ZNTC also plans to develop and produce splitters, tunable spectral and frequency filters, thermo-optical switches, and modulators. “Zelenograd Nanotechnology Center has been a resident of the special economic zone of the capital for more than 10 years, since 2011. During this time, the company has invested almost three billion rubles in the development of production. The company employs 190 people,” said Gennady Degtev, CEO of the SEZ Technopolis Moscow. Companies - residents of the special economic zone of the capital receive support from the city. They are relieved of the need to pay taxes on property, land and transport. The corporate income tax rate for 10 years is only 2 percent. ________________________________________ Press service of the SEZ "Technopolis Moscow" Phone: +7 916 516-15-46 Mail: pr@technomoscow.ru [ mailto:pr@technomoscow.ru ] Subscribe to the SEZ "Technopolis Moscow" in social networks, follow the main news of the SEZ in telegram-channel [ https://t.me/technopolismoscow ]  and receive all the most important news delivered to your mail in our weekly newsletter [ http://events.technomoscow.ru/subscribe/?utm_source=site_technomoscow ] .
